In an effort to get back into blogging, and to make sure I remember all the fun things I got to experience in London, I'll do my best to write a blog post every week about a different activity that I've done. Currently, every Tuesday, Brendon, Chris, and I (and any hangers-on) are checking out different parts of London - I'll give an overview of our weekly escapades.
The first day Tuesday was a very 'London' activity - pétanque at the Prince of Wales pub in Kennington.
The Prince of Wales pub in Kennington is a cosy little pub right on Cleaver Square. The square was built in 1778, and is surrounded by lovely Georgian houses. But the best part? On a balmy summer evening, you can hire boules for a £10 deposit from the Prince of Wales, take your drinks out onto the square and partake in the genteel game of pétanque. You just bowl on out (geddit?), pick your spot and go! We were terrible, literally throwing our balls all over the show, but no one seemed to mind. Even if you don't want to play, feel free to grab a drink and observe. If you're there on a Wednesday, you can watch the London Pétanque Club play their matches - or start your own of course.
Once you've finished, I recommend heading back into the Prince of Wales for some dinner. The meals are typical London pub prices, about £10 for a main, but boy oh boy is their steak and spitfire ale pie worth it! Drooling.
Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday evening. If only we knew how to play boules properly....
Getting there - take the Northern line and get off at Kennington station. It's about a 5 minute walk from there.
